Annie's new Martin gig guitar
-
October 6, 2007
Today, I traded my vintage Guild F-20 guitar for a new Martin DC 16GTE-Premium. (CLICK ON PHOTOS above to see my new guitar!)
My plan was to own a Martin to take out of town in place of my vintage Martins (too dear to me to travel). I didn't like giving up the Guild since I had bought it as a student, with the first $100 I'd ever earned by singing. But this new Martin has two pickups and a built-in strobe tuner, both of which are essential for good sound in live performance. It's a dreadnaught, which means it's a lot larger than my Martin New Yorker. Funny but when I play it, it doesn't seem bigger or heavier, and I'm only 5'4"! I love the warmer, larger sound of this spruce and mahogany guitar. You'll see what I mean when you hear me playing it at upcoming shows.

Grant Money Well Spent
-
July 25, 2007
I've finished recording the first 6 songs for my 2nd CD. The grant I received earlier this year from the Anna Sosenko Assist Trust paid for nearly 9 hours of studio time, and it was time well spent. Three new songs were recorded with guitars, bass and drums, and bass and drums were added to one song which was already recorded. I was in the studio for about 14 hours yesterday and today, and I really enjoyed the whole process.
It's exciting when musicians bring new dimensions to my music. When the result is better than the music you've been hearing in your head, you know you've asked the right people to join you. Steve Addabbo, who is producing, played lead guitar on all tracks, and also played bass on the first 2 songs. On the other 4 songs, bass was ably played by Tom Welsch, and some very tasty drums were added by Denny McDermott who has toured with David Johansen and other established artists.
So my 4 song EP turned into a 6 song EP and now, I'm so proud of the results that I want to write and record at least 10 songs, and perhaps as many as 12. I'm writing new songs now and hope to record again before the year ends.
All the best,
Annie

House Concert, Columbia, MD
-
February 19, 2007
Annie performed in a house concert at the home of Marjorie Seidman in Columbia, Maryland. Sharing the bill was Baltimore singer-songwriter-producer John Seay, winner of the 2006 Susquehanna Award. Marjorie's parrot began to sing, just as Annie was singing her "Blue Bird" song about a parrot! About 30 friends and neighbors of the Seidmans enjoyed a laid-back atmosphere, asking questions and requesting songs.
Annie and John improvised a few duets, and generally had a very cool time. They would like to do more house concerts together. If you host regular house concerts in or near Baltimore or New York City, please email Annie.

We've Been Blogged AGAIN!

February 14, 2007
Annie's web shop for writers, The Please Write Shop, got another rave writeup at The Daily Shirt, a great site for all things T-shirty. To view, click on
http://the-daily-shirt.blogspot.com/ and scroll down to February 14, 2007 (or search for "Big Red Heart"). We were first blogged by The Daily Shirt on January 1, 2007 (search for "HNY!") for our New Year's Writer's T-shirts.
At The Please Write Shop, Annie has created lots of cool gifts and gear with Writers in mind. All items are decorated with illustrations from Annie's prized collection of antique Please Write postcards, featuring cool calligraphy, groovy graphics and classic humor. Please Write postcards were often sent to nudge a loved one who hadn't written a letter recently. Some of Annie's favorite postcard designs were created during the Arts and Crafts period (late 1800s-early 1900s) and WWII.
